Windows 7: Annoying Clicking Noise

Annoying Clicking Noise

I'm getting the same random "Windows Explorer" clicking noise described below on my new Windows 7 HP laptop.

Sounds like a quiet, Windows Explorer clicking noise in the background with no discernible pattern.

I tried all the Control Panel tweaks suggested in prior thread but (like the prior poster) nothing has worked.

I also have listened to libraries of problem hard drive noises online but the noise sounds nothing like a mechanical problem. It sounds exactly like a very quiet Windows Explorer click.

Any advice is appreciated, but all things considered I'd prefer good advice.

Well I consider this very good advice. You cant go by the sounds on the internet to diagnose.
First back up all your stuff
Test the hard drive to be sure
Test Hard Drive HD Diagnostic or this test Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.
