Sound disabled after downloading Windows 7 SP1

Hi, downloaded Windows7 SP1 on an HP Pavilion laptop and since then get a message that my speakers are disabled (as are headphones). The drivers claim to be up to date, I've tried disinstalling them, updating nothing seems to work....worse still when I tried to run system restore I discovered that I hadn't set a restore point ( I'm sure it told me it was doing this during SP1 download) any ideas? Thanks

Hi and welcome to Seven forums.

What doe's it show as the default playback device?

To find out goto Start>Control Panel>Sounds , you should then get a screen similar to the one below.

Unplug the speaker connection. Plug it back in.
Does a jack detection pop-up appear?
