    Realtek ALC892 + Headphones

    Realtek ALC892 + Headphones
I just recently bought new hardware with a newer version of the Realtek onboard audio. My problem/issue that im currently having is that I no longer have quadrophonic sound with my headphones. I play a good amount of fps games ( bf3, blackops, q3live, etc) and not being able to hear the sound behind me is a huge disadvantage. Not sure what I have to enable or change but this use to work just fine with my older asus mobo (p5kc). I have my headphones plugged into the green hole as usual. Took 2 screenies of what im talking about below (cant hear the speakers in the red circles).

    Realtek Driver Version is 6.0.1.6482

Anyone know why or how to change it back to normal?

    My system:
    CPU: Intel i5 2500k
    Video Card: GTX 460 768mb
    Cooling: CoolMaster Hyper 212
    Motherboard: ASUS|P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1)
    Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
    Power Supply: ROSEWILL | HIVE-650 650W
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimage 64bit

Select Headphones then you should have a headphone virtulization check box. That is how it is on my ALC 888

I do have headphones selected and I still dont get surround sound from them. I know they work because I tried my old audigy 2 card and when I go to test surround sound I can hear the bottom speakers in that test setup. Not sure what the problem is.

On my PC, with onboard 5.1 sound, the channels coming out of the green jack are set in the configurations panel for the Realtek audio. The choices in mine are front two channels or stereo. If I set the overall audio to 2-channel that's all that comes out of the green jack. If I set the overall audio to 5.1, the front two channels come out. But there's also an option to set the output to headphones -- in which the green jack only outputs stereo, not the front two channels. You need to experiment with your audio channel settings.
