I think everyone has the same problem and it's not about anyone's computer specs, but it's with realtek and the fact that you can't normally set up your 5.1 system on windows 7.

    @jmekerila:
when i try to install the file you were talking about, i get this error:

I completely aggree that your system specs were probably not going to be all that helpful its something I could have eliminated 30 mnutes ago. If you dont want to fill in the system specs you dont have to but many people will just pass on helping if they are not.
The error code according to MSDN is a driver error. If you want us to proceed I need info from event log, BSOD dump files, and a few other things. I will get an email when this thread is updated.

Are all you guys using the same driver make and model, and version?

I have tried all possible driver models. This one won't even install, but all the other ones work normally and the funniest part is that all of the speakers are detectable in the realtek menu when I test them, but they just don't work in any other application. and my windows audio system is set to 5.1 too so it should really work.

    ok my comp specs are

    Intel D (2 x 3.0 GHZ)
    AsRock Wolfdale1333-D667 R2
    GeForce 8400GS 256MB DDR2
    2048 MB RAM

    ---edit---
one more thing i'd like to add FYI

on windows xp, after installing realtek looks totally different than on windows 7 (even the same exact version). on old one, there was no problem with this and everytime i plugged in the cable into the jack, it would ask me what I had just connected. so it was pretty simple to just show the computer what i just connected and it would work. but on windows 7, this doesn't appear anymore for some reason, and believe me i've searched every possible option on realtek to try to find it and turn it on. but the only thing that appears is that small pop-up window that tells me that i've just plugged in the cable (like i didn't know that already lol).

no, everything's clean there and it's not really the problem with installing the realtek, cause it was one and the only one version i couldn't install. everything else works perfectly and i can get it to work with the speakers when i test them but they just dont work in any other application. unless of course i highlight that weird option that makes weird noises come out of your rear and center speakers but it's not really what i want. i want them to work normally.

just downloaded the newest realtek drivers and installed and it's exactly the same thing as all the previous versions. nothing changed. still struggling with that 5.1 system of mine =/
its really weird that when i test it in the realtek sound manager, it works perfectly. but it doesn't work in any other application. only when i click the speaker fill option but that's not what I want, i want real sound out of my other 3 speakers, not just some noise.
and even when i test the speakers in windows :

    it works great there.
and in realtek, the same thing, works perfectly:

only when i highlight the speaker fill option, then some sound comes out of the remaining 3 speakers, but that's not really what i'm looking for. in windows xp, it was normal sound.

and when i plug in the cable, i get something like this:

when i click the tool symbol, it just opens the realtek sound manager.
i remember back in xp, it would open a totally new window that asks you what you just connected so you can choose, and after that, it worked perfectly.

Had the same problem with my Realtek, I could get the front 2 channels and the center and sub to respond but the rear channels were for all intensive purposes dead. I want to get it back to the Windows XP way of being able to force sound from all of my Channels instead of just the front 2 and then all of them when it is True Surround.....On a side not i also have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 card (older one) and it works with the front 2 and sub but the center and rears are not working through WMP or otheres but respond just fine when I test them through the windows speaker set up area

Hello fellows, I have the same problem, i'm really dissapointed that realtek won't fix this problem with new drivers. I downloaded a simple solution from Winamp Media Player - MP3, Multimedia, and Music Player (because i listen music with winamp player). The link is here. And to watch movies that support 5.1 sorround i downloaded win 7 codec pack by shark 007 where you can choose 5.1 audio settings.

Thank god, most of the games that i play have their own output or smth because 5.1 surround work with them (like Crysis, Assassins Creed, GRAW, GRID etc.).
