are the "Level" tabs populated w/slider bars that you adjust volume levels with or is it still a blank screen with a horizontal line (for speakers?

you said the headphones were back. they disappeared again? or were they plugged in when you saw the device and now not plugged in so hiden?

did you rt click and show hidden and all devices in the main menu agaain now that the new driver is installed?

Still no level tab slide bars, jsut the horizontal line. Headphones were back on the list immediately after I reinstalled my drivers, but no longer show. I did rt click to show disconnected and disabled devices again.

have you tryed plugging the headphone in and then reopening the window to see if they come back thn?

also does the test play button produce any sound at all on the screen that you posted. w/green play triangle?

and that beeping that the vol+/- button makes, is it the internal beep (like when you boot the computer it beeps once) or the windows sound?

There was never any sound through the headphones (except the beeps when I change the volume with the headphones plugged in). I did try to plug the headphones and reopening the window. They did not come back.

No sound when I click the PREVIEW (is that what you meant?) button.

I am pretty sure it is the internal beep.

sounds like your going to have to un/reinstall the sound software (and probably the drivers again too afterwords). because that pretty much rulls out everything (at least as far as I know of) I think you already did run a antimalwarebytes scan right, if not I would even though I doubt it's malware, It could have been malware that caused the corruption you obviously have.

If possible run a scan first. then get the software from the mfgr's site and reinstall it (remove the old one/install the new one) then test it, and if not working try the drivers on more time with the new software. It should all be at the manufacturer's website.

Sorry, I was crossing my fingers for it being a easy fix for you. I mean this wont be hard! just a little longer time investment.

I was just reading a laptop forum about cruxone's model and apparently there have been big issues with the conexant driver. The posts weren't directly related to the problem here but it seemed that there were fluctuations in the level of sound from an old driver.

The problem was solved in many cases by installing the latest windows 7 compatible conexant driver
and in other cases people were still unhappy with the output.

As I said, this is not directly related and does little to help but it does
prove the fact that there have been driver issues in the past.

Just an idea, but if the drivers from the Toshiba support site (being the latest drivers)
won't work, why not have a look around for an earlier release of the driver.
Maybe, just maybe there is problems again with the latest release.

I say this because I know from experience with a Toshiba. I did an install of Windows 7
Pro on an A200 which used to run Vista Ultimate, I did the downgraded install because the Win 7
software was available to me for free through the MSDNAA website as a student. After the install, I needed
2 drivers that Win 7 would not automatically find and install for me. One of these was the
webcam driver and I installed the recommended driver for this device from the Toshiba support site.
There it said to use the same driver as was used with Vista and the driver had a recent release (updated version). This proved impossible to get it to function, however I found an older driver and hey presto- it worked!

Have you done the re-installs as mentioned by rubyroo yet?

Maybe try my suggestion if you have and it hasn't worked for you.

Note: If you can find an older driver release and install and the problem is solved, if you update the driver afterwards don't uninstall the older one beforehand. This will allow you to "roll back" if required to a working state.

That is a good idea AllOnTheBus, I have also seen issues that an older driver seemed to fix in the past. I'm starting to wonder if maybe an automatic update to the newest version might have triggered the issue from the beginning. It may show up on the install history log in the time around or before the first symptoms presented. But this type of confirmation is not necessary to preform, except to possibly shed light on exactly what happened. and your last note is a very good point as well, if this method solves the problems. thanks for the assistance, it is always welcome.

By "sound software" do you mean NVIDIA? or Conexant SmartAudio HD? I cannot find the latter to uninstall.

The same manufacturer's website, may archive older versions or at least on older than the latest release. That would be the best place to get it, they are also often found scattered across the web, but these can often contain malware, and must be checked for anything that could damage your computer further with detection software before using! If you can't find it at the Mfgr's site, see if there's a FAQ, Help or Real-time Chat Assistant that can assist your search.

    I would try this first.
