Why doesn't Realtek on my laptop recognize headphones?

    I have VIA HD Audio. Someone else should have 'Realtec'.

    Check the link in this post & see if you can get to the settings there.

    Thnaks for the link. However, the problem is that there isn't even any "advanced settings" option when I open Realtek Audio HD Manager

    right click the speaker icon in the system tray, and select playback devices. do a screen shot of the window that opens and post it please

    ok in the window that shows the realtek hd audio, right click and select show disabled devices. this should show your headphones, double click on the headphones and in the new window that appears select enable /apply /ok.

    I checked them both, but headphones still don't appear for some reason

    Yes they are, but the sound continues to go through the speakers

    ok ,back now. try this double click on the speakers icon with the green tick. in the window that opens there should be a jack information, and enable dropdown. be sure it says use this device ( enable ).
