Distorted Sound on Toshiba Laptop

Hi there

Recently got a Toshiba L755 and have been having an issue with audio & video playback since I got it. I have updated the latest drivers for the Conexant HD Audio card and this made no difference. Basically during playback there is an intermitant distorted sound during mp3 playback, video playback and online streams.

I have tried different programs and the same thing happens, however, when I have a LAN cable plugged in there is no issue - it is only when im connected to the net via wireless. I have a netgear router which is working fine.

Can anyone please tell me what might cause the wireless to create this issue and how to go about fixing it?

It sounds like the Audio is sharing the IRQ (interrupt) with the Wireless controller. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound device and then LEFT Click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Many times Windows will put it on a different shared IRQ and this may fix the problem you are having.

or it could be your wireless router can't handle transmitting the data fast enough. not all routers are good for streaming media content.
usually a standard home router can't handle streaming media content. some can't stream HD content at all.

you might consider getting a higher performance wireless router and wireless adapter for the computer.

netgear has a few routers geared toward streaming media content. stick to the performance routers or the work and play ones.

Good point on the router. If it's an older "g" type router, the user should upgrade to one that will handle "n" speeds.

I have a Netgear N150 at present which worked fine with my old Dell XP laptop, I see that now comes under the 'simple sharing' category. Sounds like it might be time for an upgrade...

Will try switching the sound card's IRQ tonight as well, thanks for the help guys

Managed to get the sound card onto a different IRQ using the metrhod you described but unfortunately the problem persists.

Someone on the toshiba forum suggested it could be interference effecting the wireless router. As I mentioned its an old 'g' type Netgear N150 - would getting something like this be advisable then?

that's the same one I have. but I often wonder if it's fast enough. it seems fine for my computer but if I watch hulu+ on my tv with my Western Digital streaming media player I can't leave it set on the 720p video quality settings.
I have to set it on "auto" quality. but it still looks like it's in HD to me.
but it also might be a limitation on my internet. because I have DSL with only 4.5 mb download speeds.

btw, these streaming media players are awesome. I got rid of my $70 a month cable and pay netflix and hulu $16 combined. and they have everything I used to watch anyway. plus I get movies. cable didn't have anything like that. unless you paid for them...what a rip off cable and sat is. plus they're only in 480i this thing does everything in 1080p. so everything looks like it's in HD.
