    yea, its a very annoying problem. ive looked everywhere for the fix.

    Your sound is OK? I mean, it's only a missing mic?

    EDIT: Here's a similar (?) issue, audio out coming from mic jack. Just to show hoe weird these things can be.

    correct. my sound is perfect. coming out of the GREEN Audio jack. my only issue is not being able to use my mic. ive tried both black and pink jacks and neither of them work

    i did have same problem as you on any windows 7 default installation. the sound was working but microphone don't... Well i have integrated sound card on my motherboard so i go to the main site of my motherboard and install drivers for windows vista... and it did work like a charm after that... anyway my sound card is ??? well i really dont know just saying
    IDT High Definition Audio Driver IDT HD 6-channel HD audio CODEC this should be it...

    i installed it and worked fine... if it is any help my motherboard is nforce6m-a and i found drivers on this site...

    so i plugged in my roomates usb headset and ran the troubleshooter and it found it. seems to be working fine now. but i have to use a usb headset for it to work.
