hp pavilion no sound-red x over speaker in task bar

I downloaded and installed windows 7 from the microsoft site, now my sound won't work. I tried updating it but nothing. I have the latest realtek drivers AC'97 audio and the high definition audio in the device manager but both have a yellow exclamation mark next to them. Then when I click on it, it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Any help? School starts in a week and a half and i need audio for classes. What can I do?

Hello Tipsey and welcome to the SevenForums.
You should use Conexant drivers with your laptop. It is for 32-bit Windows. Latest version here. Try it first, come back if it doesn't work and we'll see what we can do.

No, this driver is only 32-bit. I don't find the right one.

You could try to uninstall audio drivers in Device Manager, answer no when Windows wants to reinstall it, reboot and then let Windows automatically install the driver.
I'm googling, I'll tell you if I find something.

I re-downloaded windows 7 but the 32 bit one. When it started up it had the same problem but i downloaded the conexant driver from the hp site and now it works. So i guess the audio just doesn't work on the 64 bit.

    Thanks

I may be WAY off here but you say you have Realtek HD audio AND AC'97? I am not an expert but the AC'97 header from my case is not even hooked up. I was under the impression they were different headers on the motherboard. Do you have both? I wouls find out witch one you have and get the driver for the specific one (HD or AC'97)

Someone let me know if I'm wrong here.

If you have 32bit and want to stay with it fine but I thought the two were different and you could not use both at the same time. Only the one your mobo supports.
