    ALC 850 & Windows 7 x64

    Hey there guys!
Got a problem with sound. My MoBo is Biostar TForce 6100 AM2 with Realtek AC'97 7.1 inside :)
When I play games, or listen to music - sound is not good - it is filled like with "scratches" or something.
I used drivers from Windows Update - there was such a problem.
Then tried early drivers - same thing..
Got any idea what drivers I should use to get normal quality sound?

    Hey guys!
Just updated once again drivers to 6.0.1.6293 thru Windows Update.
Now, when I try to "Configure" speakers to 5.1, in the end it tells me that "Format is not supported by the device"
    WTF, guys?

I´ve got the same problem with W7 Beta 1 and the ALC850. When I select the 5.1 option the sound test works fine but when I try to confirm the settings it tells me "Format is not supported by the device". I find this a bit amusing besides all the frustration. Amusing as the sound test gives me 5.1 sound but the system thinks I´m imagining things

It seems like I´ve solved the problem. You have to have both the Control Panel and the Realtek Sound Effect Manager open simultaneously and check 5.1 sound in the Control Panel as you choose 6channel sound in the Realtek Sound Effect Manager at the same time. Now it should be OK to complete the speaker configuration in the Control Panel. At least for me it was and I got 5.1 sounds working in Media Player.

Yeah, I have done that too... but Control Panel still says that there are "2 Speakers", when I'm trying to test them, every speaker on picture ignites, but there is no sound from speakers!
Then when I try to change Control Panel's "2 Speakers" to "6" - still no effect, clicking on one of speakers freezes ignited speaker on the image.

    Ooh, fixed that!!!
I had "Realtek Digital Output" device, and when I have disabled it - Realtek's Control Panel now plays sound, yahoo!

But, that about these "scratches" even when playing test sound from Control Panel or standard Windows' "Audio" applet???

I assume you have uninstalled the old drivers before installing new ones. I had OK sound from the beginning but only stereo. I tried everything but finally when I had both Control Panel and Realtek Sound Effect Manager opened simultaneously and changed the settings in both of them at the same time I managed to get the 5.1. settings to stay.

I just installed the RC x64. Windows Update recommended the "NVidia Audio Codec" driver, didn't mention any Realtek driver. The sound started working immediately. I have a DFI LANparty Ultra-D NForce4 board with the ALC 850.
