dvd movies no sound with dolby dvds on wmp...

why is there no sound for playing dvd movies using windows music player?????
music concert dvds all play fine, as do CDs, internet sound. only movies have no sound. can't dolby and microsoft get to gether and allow dolby thx dvds to play using media player? downloaded this thing called AC3 filter and it didn''t make any difference.

haven't tried to play movies since I moved awhile back and now it is coming back to me that WMP is totally useless for any movies I have on dvd. I had to install my roxio creator program to watch dvds with sound. so I guess I will have to do that again.

Just wondering is your comp win 7 sp1 or not

I have had the same prob a while back wmp used to work than it stopped working.

I had to move on to a different program.

I suggest going to a program called "media player classic".

Search on Google for somthing called "k-lite codec pack"

It comes with media player classic.

    It is free

It should be able to play Dolby digital, DTS, and many others in up to 7.1 surround sound.

It worked for me until i moved on to blu rays than i had to go to a program called cyberlink 9 and sadly it is not free.

But for you i suggest mpc for your dvd's

    Good luck hope this helps

P.s. My wmp is working again dont ask me how it might have been that i went to sp1 but who knows.

wmp light plays sound but NO picture -

tried that but no cigar, get sound but picture is black and white gibberish.

If microsoft would design wmp 12 to work as advertised this would all be unnecessary. type in search wmp 12 dvd no sound and it is obvious this program is not working as advertised.

    at least there are alternatives

i am sorry it didn't work.

It has always worked for me maybe they updated it and it has a bug.

As for wmp 12 i tried everything i could think of (which was quite a lot) and it always failed.

The only way to get things to work for me was to go to a 3rd party player.

Some people say they love vlc player.

I have never used it and don't know how it works but the reviews are very high.

and once again it is free.

I am pretty sure it can play dvd's

once again Good luck and i hope it works for you :)

    Hi there
install VLC -- it hasn't failed with ANY movie / DVD / Video I've tried on it --also it's 100% FREE.
