"No speakers or headphones are plugged in" Win7 ult. x64 HDMI>AVR>LCD
Hello Everyone,
I have been a lurker for a while but have now created an account to ask for help since searching has been not helpful thus far. My PC: Profile is filled The problem: The problem I am having is that for some reason my speaker icon (in the lower right) has a red X and when hovering over it I am told "no speakers or headphones are plugged in." When it happens/ Causes?: Usually my HTPC is left on 24/7 and only the AVR and TV are turned off. This problem happens more often than not when I turn my AVR and TV back on (keep in mind this is after it worked fine before powering down my TV and AVR). This also happens sometimes when I turn on or wake up my HTPC if I actually do shut it off or put it to sleep. What I have tried: I have tried to update all drivers. Tried reverting back to old (original drivers). Pulling out my hair and saying bad words ;-) ![]() Other thoughts: I have heard that this may be a problem with EDID /copyright protection(not sure exactly what that is) and a "handshake" issue with Windows not realizing my TV/AVR are turned back on. Either way I am baffled and willing to try anything. ![]() Does anyone have any ideas or knowledge about this? I would really apreciate any help/ advice/ ideas. Thank you! |

sort of fixed but now a new problem
Hello again,
I have sort of fixed my problem and for those who need help with this (300+ views and no replies) here it goes: 1) I removed all drivers under "monitors" on " on "device manager" -control panel> hardware>device manager> monitor> delete all profiles under that setting. 2) Next I followed directions here Windows Experts Community ----------------------------------....-------------------- so far so good EXCEPT...... Now my computer ,....every now and then will make the ding du, ...duh doo...sounds like hardware is being connected and disconnected.....and if I am really, really lucky, a box will pop ip that states the following: Heading: audio display disabled Text (next to an "i" in a blue circle: you have disabled a display that supports audio. do you want to configure default audio and communication device settings. If I click configure I am taken to: AMD vision control center BTW- here is the wierd part..... the whole time....the audio still works! Also my display will black out then return and my rsolution will be different.... Any ideas anyone? |
