No Sound Realtek HD - ASUS N53SV

    Hallo,

I have no sound right now using the Realtek HD audio drivers that I downloaded from my laptop manufactures site. These are the correct drivers too that were on the page for my laptop model ( ASUS N53SV , ) so I'm a bit confused why sound is not working...I do get sound for a bit after I log in & I do get the windows start up sound before log in, but that's it, it stops working after that...so I know that it's not my speakers. When I went on the 'troubleshooting' section in the control panel and troubleshooted audio, it comes up as no problems detected for some odd reason... even when I download the troubleshooter for audio online at the microsoft site.

The only place that I'm getting sound right now is the Realtek HD Audio Manager, other than that, soon as I close that, I have no sound anywhere else ( even with the audio manager open too.)

Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi RedBlade
That is pretty unusual as mostly realtek audio rarely having trouble.
I don't really know where to start in sorting this out. But here,

    1. Unplug any connected audio jack or HDMI
    2. Restart the system
    3. Go to the device manager, and see if there is any mark on audio driver installed.
    4. Open the Audio Manager, check the speaker configuration, choose stereo
    5. Click on > to check the sound configuration. If it all work, then click OK.

I'm not sure if other sound utilities mentioned in its feature is interfering with it, and also its tv tuner.

If those above steps doesn't work. Just be sure people here with more expertise are available to help.

    Hallo!

Thanks for replying. I don't know what's going on with it either right now, it just seems very random to me :\

    1. Nothing plugged in...2. I've restarted the system since I made my last post, and sound seems to be working :\ sound wasn't working since the 10th or 11th of February when I first installed the realtek drivers, so it has been restarted three times I think since they were installed. ( the third time with audio working :s )
    3. I checked when audio wasn't working on the last post, & no, there was no yellow exclamation mark or anything like that...windows reported it as working properly...4. I don't have the option to change it to anything else but stereo for some reason it's just grayed out... 5. Yes, it's working when I click on that ( goes from left factory speaker to right ) and that was the only thing that had sound when I didn't have any sound.

    Thanks ^^

Well. I almost out of option here.

But there are some guesses can be done harmlessly.
    - First, try to install any latest codec you have (K-Lite, or else), and play any mp3 files (do restart if required).
    - Second, roll back the sound drivers with older driver that worked before.

    Wish that helps.

    Hi,

Switching back to the old drivers won't work as there weren't any realtek drivers installed before that ( fresh install windows 7 due to virus...) so I didn't have a 'stereo mix' in my audio control panel which is why I installed the realtek drivers. Sound isn't working again...and this is happening quite frequently too. This time today, audio under the > test button in the realtek audio manager isn't working, and the 'test' under the default windows one is, but sound plays. I have had the latest cccp codecs installed right now, and xvid before even the realtek drivers were installed. Audio wasn't working again yesterday though...even though it seems to be today ( edit: I'm not sure why, but pressing the > button in realtek audio manager now is working right after I played a youtube video in firefox, before that, it refused to do anything or even show the animation its supposed to after you click it. )

I currently have no sound right now. I had no sound , so then I decided to 'disable' and then 'enable' my speakers in the windows sound control panel. What I get after enabling my speakers is " the device is being used by another application please close any applications that may be using the device and try again " I then tested the realtek manager & it refused to do anything when I clicked the blue > play button. Oddly enough when I just went to test my speakers in control panel under sound, while trying this, & I pressed "test" and it played the test sound without saying that error message and there has been no opened/exited application changes. ( I didn't hear the test sound though because there's still no sound. ) I then tryed the realtek manager, and it played the animation like it was playing the test sound, but still no sound. I'm not sure how to fix this.

How do I correctly uninstall & re-install the realtek drivers so that I have correctly working sound for my ASUS?? Anyone know?? Or something else?? Thanks, I'm out of ideas on what's going on. ^^

Can anyone help on this please?

Hmm. Last reboot I had sound, but this one has no sound. Pressing test on the speakers unter sound in the control panel shows the green bar go up & down like sound is being played, but there is no sound actually being played.
Right now I'm playing a youtube video under firefox, and the green bar is not going up & down for speakers under sound control panel. BUT, the green bars do go up & down on 'realtek digital output' , just not speakers, and there's no sound. No one has any ideas, questions..etc, that could help fix this?

    - I'm using a windows fresh install ( had to format due to virus ) if this helps too?

    Thanks.

I have this same laptop. I just recently installed a new hard drive and can tell you after initial windows installation with a default HD driver from Windows my sound worked fine. However after entering sounds/playback tab and selected the speakers properties/ enhancements tab ;i would select the Disable all sound effects check box and the sound would completely cut out even after deselecting the check box. Instead of fighting a flaky windows default driver(not that all default drivers from windows are bad)and not accepting a nearly year or two old asus realtek driver, i have went to realtek.com and installed the R2.70 HD realtek driver that was current as of this writing. This laptop hasn't given me much other problems with sound after the installation of R2.70 and sounds great on my ultrasone DJ1-PRO's and i'm anxious at using the headphone jack that doubles as a SPDIF out with my surround. hope you have resolved this issue by now but if not contact me for any questions

...This problem actually really confused me...It went on like this & not working for a long time, until it just stopped doing it. It was sort of like it had fixed itself...I'm also due for another re-install soon ( to keep my computer feeling fresh.) So I'll have to see what happens when I do another fresh install...I can't do this right now unfortunately, because my backup hard drive is still not working, or even showing up on my computer...which I can't afford to send to a recovery specialist right now, and buy another hard drive for backup ( I'm thinking a 2TB hard drive this time..)..but I'm hoping within the next couple of months I'll be able to afford all of this. Which it'll be around that long too until I can test this again, and see if there's any issues with sound again. I just hope next time I install windows, that my computer doesn't have any issues...But maybe the R2.70 HD realtek driver you mentioned will work this time, and I'll post back.
Thanks though for trying to help. It's much appreciated. ^^
