    Annoying "open lid" sound.

Before I say anything else, here are the steps I've already taken:

    1) I have gone into Control Panel | Sound | Sounds
    2) I have highlighted the "Windows Logon" event and selected (None)
    3) I have also unchecked the box labelled "Play Windows Startup Sound"

Even after doing all of the above, when I open the lid of my Acer 7750G-9657 laptop, it plays an annoying sound (to be honest, I consider any sound at this point in the process annoying). I have gone into the Windows\Media folder to identify which sound file is being used for the "Lid Open" event... and none of the sound files in this directory match the one being played.

Also... I should mention that although I am using an Acer laptop, I am using none of the software that it came with (drivers yes, software no). I went out and bought a copy of Win 7 Professional, formatted the C: drive and installed a fresh copy of Retail version Win 7 on it.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what I need to do to eliminate this sound? I often open my laptop in surroundings such as classrooms and libraries - places where silence is appreciated. Currently, I have to make sure my earphones are plugged in before opening it up.

Change the sound scheme to "No Sounds" and see if that fixes it. If that does not do it, Acer has installed a separate program that will generate the sound. You will have to try and find the program and kill it.

Yeah, that seems like a good way to track it down. Thanks for the suggestion. I'd hate to think it's a driver that's causing it - I can't remember ever seeing a driver with an applicable option.

If this didn't work, it has to be an Acer specific audio feature.

Not sure if this is an attribute of the ACPI Lid driver.
