    Realtek AC'97 Audio (Code 10)

    I have a HP Pavilion zv6000
    amd 64 3200 +

I used the Realtek AC'97 Audio driver when I had x64 vista business and the sound worked fine.

I used the same driver with W7 and I get and error that says This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Has anyone had luck fixing this issue or had the same problem.

    no sound on realtec

one more option to check is in control panel, find the sound option and make sure the output you intend to use is set to on and/or is the default. I am noticing a trend (good) that some defaults are set to off, which is what I found for the digital output on my pc.
hope this helps, so far I am very impressed, moreso than the vista beta

have you tried deleting the device from device manager and then rescanning for new hardware?

i have solved a few problems with onboard devices using this method. other than that, ia am out of ideas.

something happened here with this driver. On initial install win7 installed the driver just fine.... then after some play with windows, installing other programs, non audio-type but plenty of other drivers and such, the sound failed to work.

Even an uninstall or update drivers did not work of course. MS still said it had the best drivers and device was working properly. Well, no it wasnt.

I had this same sorta problem on laptop. Win7 only wanted to install the HD realtek drivers. That gave me no sound at all.

Eventually i tried and tested a few other drivers to find out the best one out there is the Vista_R12.zip from Realteks website. I tried the "Vista APO" driver, but it didnt work true for me, while the R12 worked without a hitch.

Here is the link for the vista driver R2.14. Dated 2009/1/9

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

I have found this to work with no problem. Also has the 3D SoundBack beta 0.1 (audio effect/enhancement for Vista) not tested by me yet.
