No audio When PC connected to TV by HDMI

I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1435dx laptop. TV is Dynex LCD (one of those no name brand ones ) I checked the drivers on the laptop, they all seem to be up to date. However when I go to Control panel-Sound-Manage audio devices, there is no icon with an HDMI label to select for playback device. How do I add the driver for HDMI (to select)?

I have scanned (and tried) numerous suggestions on this type of a problem on different sites on the web (including this one, under a different thread)

Any suggestions, other than try a new cable?
    Thank you in advance.

    Welcome to SevenForums.

In Sounds / Playback make sure it is not disabled and hidden.
Rt click on the Sounds / Playback window to make sure "Show Disabled Devices" is checked.

If it is not there open Device Manager to see if is listed and there are no errors.
You can open Device Manger from Start/Search

So, you see an HDMI audio Icon in Device Manager, but do not see one in Playback devices ?
I've never seen that before, and don't know if a bad cable could cause that.

You can try running the Windows audio troubleshooter and see if that helps.
You could try updating the drivers.
Sometimes even using an older driver can fix things.
You could also try uninstalling the device in Device Manager, reboot, and Windows should re-install the device.
