look for the default beep event in the windows default sound scheme

you can test it there to hear it

    David,

I heard the windowsding.wav file, it's similar to what I've been describing, but definitely not the same sound recording.

I think the "ding" I'm describing has always been there in Windows, whenever I right-click and select "copy" or "cut", I think it was always in Windows XP too.

Interesting... then it's not the default windows ding...

did you check for any programs that might be causing this?

You can check in the Events log to make sure you are not getting some kind of error/warning with this sound.

I'm not sure, but I think this "DING" function seems to be a system feature of Windows, not program-specific.
I am unsure what the "ding" sound sounds like, could you please be more precise or post a link to the actual sound file.
    Infinite,

I hooked up a USB microphone, set it next to my speaker and used an application called "Sound Recorder" to record a Windows Media File. The first three "dings" are from pressing the "Test" button under the "Sounds" tab for "Default Beep", with the sound set to "Windows Ding". This is NOT the sound I am having the problem with, I have only heard this particular sound when pressing the "Test" button, I've never heard it before or since.

I recorded it first, to demonstrate the difference between what you guys have been describing and the "Ding" sound that I get when using the right-click and "copy" function.

The second set of three consecutive "dings" is what I'm trying to stop, which occurs when right-clicking and selecting "copy" (or using the keys "ctrl-c" to copy) for text or anything else that Clipboard is able to copy.

When I tried to upload the file, it says "invalid file"

What type of file extension is it, try uploading it to YouTube?

You could also try attaching it to a zip and upload the zip here or mediafire and share us the mediafire link.

wav files are allowed (up to 1.50MB), but you may not have enough posts, usually 10 to upload them.

    Anak, David, Infinite,

Thanks very much for your patience with me, I'm not a computer wiz, so it was something of an accomplishment just for me to figure out how to record the sound in the first place

I broke the sound down into two separate clips (one long clip was too large of a .wav file). I found an online converter, saved the clips, and will upload each individually.

This first clip is the sound called "Windowsding", when you go into the "Sound Scheme" settings we discussed above. This is NOT the sound I'm having the problem with, I only recorded it to distinguish between the "official" windowsding sound and the one I can't seem to make stop.

First up, the one I'm not having a problem with (attached .wav file below, if I did this correctly)

Here is the recording of the "ding" sound that happens whenever I either right-click and select "copy" or do the same thing with the keyboard ("ctrl-c") to copy text or anything else that can be copied to the Clipboard.

It is similar to the "ding" sound in the previous post, but definitely not the same:

Your welcome! Take your time, at one point in time we all started out as noobs. If you are unsure just ask.

Strange, when I went to play your file I heard no Sounds.

I also checked, and I could not find any type of post limit.

I hear the second file, it doesn't have the body of a normal ding.wav it sounds tinny.
Do you hear the three dings when you copy/paste or did you record it that way?
