can we get generic Old fashioned equalizer like we had in XP back

    Hi there
We used to have for most Audio drivers back in XP days a decent equalizer.

Now all we have it seems is a basic Volume control.
I just want the OPEN MIXER on the bottom task bar to have some basic equalisation like it did with XP.

Any decent FREE generic equalizer -- I KNOW if I'm using VLC or Winamp they have their own equalizers and they work so my Audio (connexant HD) must have the facility available somewhere.

I have some applications that just deliver "Bog standard Sound" to the on board sound card -- I'd like to be able to adjust the sound with a decent equalizer - seems we've GONE BACKWARDS here from XP -- the rest of W7 is fine.

Anybody replying who says use Windows Media player or another music playing app ==> PLEASE RE READ THE POST.

    Thanks

    Cheers

    jimbo45,
This likely doesn't help but I've been nothing but impressed ever since loading and then upgrading to lifetime gold for MediaMonkey, it has a wicked equalizer function among many superior features. It's available as a free download but this may not be the solution you're looking for. Did you check the freeware section of the Software forum?

I'm confused. Your post states Connexant HD, whereas your specs list Realtek HD. The Realtek driver includes an equalizer. Which is it?

And then to confuse things even further the specs for the motherboard listed,

    ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P5QL-CM

show that it has Via onboard audio.

    Audio

    VT1708B, 8-Channel High-Definition Audio CODEC
    Support Jack Detection and Multi-streaming
