You need to run the installation file twice and reboot twice. The first time, it will remove the current driver. The second time, it will install the driver.
That being said, this beta driver works great! I can play on 24-bit 48000 hz (studio quality) with next to no crackles, and the driver recognizes that the DirectX version is 11.0. I also don't need to turn off sound effects or enable immediate mode.
This is strange. The 2.37 drivers still causes crackling, unlike the beta ones. Perphaps they are further investigating this and other issues with faulty ALC663 codecs.
Meanwhile, I've gone down the "disable PowerMizer" path.
I can confirm that the crackling disappeared, BUT! my monitor doesn't turn itself off after the configured period (or at all).

I just recently bought an Acer Aspire 8735G and I have this terrible popping noise that everyone speaks of. I have tried everything. Downloading drivers, uninstalling, reinstalling, 5.1 Surround settings, immediate sound setting, and I have yet to find a solution after countless hours of trial and error. If anyone could possibly shed some light on this matter it would be greatly appreciated by me, and others. Thank you very much in advance.

P.S. I am running Win 7 Home Premium, and currently downloading another driver off of Realteks website... I am not sure of anything, but I won't lose hope.
Just wanted to let you all know about the solution I found to my problem.
Like many in this thread, I was experiencing "pops" and "crackles" when listening to sound played through the onboard sound of my motherboard. I am using a Gigabyte MA790XT-UPD4 with the built-in Realtek ALC889A. and just some simple 2.1 analog speakers.
I had tried running the newest drivers from the Gigabyte wegpage and also the latest 2.37 drivers from Realtek ...and even the older Vista 2.22 drivers. I tried changing sound settings in Windows and also lowering the quality all the way down to 16bit 44100Hz.... but still had the issue.
The solution for me was to stop running the Gigabyte ET6 overclocking/monitoring application. I don't usually even install those programs that come with a new motherboard, but I thought I would give this one a try.
Well as soon as I killed that application my sound issues would clear up. I assume it is not compatible with my Win7 64bit Home Premium or it is hogging a lot of resources every few seconds as it checks temps and fan speeds. Funny thing is that I found that I can run WCPUID HW Monitor 1.15 just fine.
Not sure if this will help others, but I thought I would mention it.

I'm still having this problem...no changing the sound settings seems to work. I'm convinced it's the graphics adapter (disabling it fixes the problem, but of course messes up how everything looks.) Also, my computer seems extremely reluctant to install any old drivers or programs, so I haven't been able to figure out a way to get the older NVIDIA drivers to work.
Thanks Bill! I was being driven crazy by the pops and crackles that I was hearing. I'm running Win7 Pro 64Bit on my EX58-UD3r motherboard. I had just installed the Gigabyte software to see how fast my CPU fan was spinning. As soon as I disabled it all the noise was gone. Thanks for posting!
I can confirm that EasyTune seems to be the root of the problem on Gigabyte boards. I have a GA-MA770-UT3P rev. 1.0 motherboard which exhibited the problem both times I installed ET.

Awesome man! I´m using a GA-P43-DS3L and I was having this annoying problem. I did exactly what you said. And...SURPRISE !!! It´s works !!!
Just for curiosity I try to set ON again in the Energy Saver program, and the pops and cracks comes back again.
