I've downloaded the powermizer switch hoping for a magical fix. Anyway, it just says powermizer settings not available when I run it.

Think I'm gonna try acer again. I don't know if they will pay for shipping like they did last time though. I'm gonna end up spending enough money on shipping and packing labor where I could just buy a new computer. Some guy I called at Acer America in the middle of the night said that they have a no replacement policy. That is some bad business if you ask me. I would like to build my own computer but I'm just not capable of it. Heck, last time I tried installing a modem card 10 years ago on an emachine I really messed up the installation. I have Homer Simpson expertise.

Anyway I think I'll just keep sending it to acer to get the message across even if it never is fixed. I'm mad and want them to spend time and money packing it up and shipping it back. Like I said though their repair center is a joke.

    So far I've tried:
disabling and removing all pc components not required to turn on
checking and rechecking all power connections internal and external (as I said until reading this thread I was sure it was a grounding issue)
    update to newest realtek drivers
    update nvidia graphics drivers
    disable all sound effects
    enable immediate mode
    change quality to 24bit 48KHz or bit/sample 16/24 44.1
change power settings to high performance from balanced
switch to input ports for output
    reduce all levels to 50%
disable system speaker in device manager
set minimum Processor state to 100%
try the Realtek turnoff pullmode drivers

The following options don't seem to be available on my PC:
    mute PC beep
change BIOS option for soundcard to enable from auto
    enable spread spectrum bios

I have not yet found out how to:
turn off the contact connection for new jack inputs and outputs
    disable powermizer

And I haven't gotten round to trying old old drivers (think I read 1.81, 2.21, and 2.22 were recommended).

Damn this is a difficult one to source.

What worked for me is this realtekdriver: 5898_PG281_VISTA_TurnOff_PullMode_Upd.zip

Installed it about 2 weeks ago and no problems at all proper 5.1 surround and i do believe it supports 7.1!

    Its a realtek driver V6.0.1.5898

So this is what gets rid of the computer slow down or and the endless DPC latency spikes? I don't believe it, I want to know more about that before I try it.

The way I see it... what have you got to lose, nothing has worked for you so far.

Several folks have recommended that driver over the past couple of months.
It's a valid driver and works well, the only thing to note is it does not have the "user adjust" mode for the EQ.

About a week and a half ago I posted that I was getting this same thing on a brand new HP computer. I said that I took it back and got an e-machines and that it didn't' have the problem. Well, I spoke too soon. This new computer now has it too and it's every bit as bad as it was in the HP. That makes two brand new computers right out of the box with this same problem. If MS doesn't get a fix to this problem PDQ I'll just get a "borrowed" copy of XP from p2p service. This is ridicules. MS really should check out their operating systems before putting them out.

OK, what do you experts think of this. After I made that post above I went to do a reboot. I had emule running and shut it down. Before I could do the reboot the phone rang and when I got off I started up a web radio station and it worked fine, so I started up emule again. About a half hour ago the sound was getting bad again, so just out of curiosity I shut down emule and waited a couple of minutes. Sure enough the sound went back to normal. It was at this point that it hit me that the static on this computer had only started after I put in emule a few days ago. It's obvious that there is some kind of connection, but what is it? Could it be something to do with going from 32 to 64 bits? What do you guys think? I'm far from an expert.
