Audio output limited to HDMI - ASRock AMD790GX

    Hello,

This might be bit of a different situation to many other problems being reported here.

I am currently running Windows 7 and for some reason the system can only detect HDMI as the only valid audio output, rendering the default audio jacks useless and silent.

The sound chip is integrated on the PC's ASRock AMD790GX mother board (M3A790GXH/128M model if I remember correctly). Installing the manufacturer's Vista drivers has not made any difference.

If someone has found the same issue or somehow solved it, please reply.

    Thank you in advance.

    asteroth, welcome to the forums.

If you haven't check in the bios and make sure that the onboard is enabled. According to the manual the default is supposed to be Auto, which is suppoesed to disable the onboard when a PCI sound card is detected. It is possible that it is disabling the onboard due to the audio chip built into the onboard viddeo. If it is set to auto, set it to enabled and that should fix it.

I tried solving the problem with enabling and disabling all three audio-related settings in BIOS (onboard HD audio, onboard HD audio front panel and HDMI audio) and no luck.

Any further help would be appreciated.

    New Drivers

I have the 790GMH board. I used the 25 aug drivers (VIA high definition audio driver ver:v7300a) and it seemed to come right for mw. Try: ASRock > Products > A790GMH/128M > Download

Also, I upgraded to the 1.30 Bios.

I actually ended up with a new app in the sound control panel which gave me access to the plugs.

    Latest Drivers

Did you try the latest driver tricks? When I did it it create a sound app in the control panel which gave me access to a multitude of settings.
