    SOLVED!

I upgraded from a non-HDMI videocard to a HDMI videocard. Because the HDMI port is considered an audio device and there were no cables running to my HDMI port, the "playback devices" portion of the sound bar stated that there was no audio device connected to it.

I went into the playback devices and disabled the HDMI audio port and all is well.

    Just FYI.

try this.this one worked for me

    1. Click Start, type Services.msc in the Start Search box.

    2. Scroll down the list of services, right-click Windows Audio and select Start.

    3. Select Properties for Windows Audio and set its Startup Type to Automatic.

If the Windows Audio service does not start and you get the error Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start, then make sure that the following services are started and their Startup Type is set to Automatic.
    Plug and Play
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

    debadri

    thanks for the suggested fix

however, my system has always had the services you suggest start automatically and have always been running when the problem occurred

on this basis (for me at least) it is not the fix

in fact, on my system everything is working as it should, sound and all, it's just i very occasionally get an error flag in the system tray which means the error is that i get the error flag

i can not remember the last time i got the red flag in the system tray so maybe mine is fixed??
    how or why it's fixed??

    cheers

hi, my comp is having some audio problems and i need help.
    -windows 7 ultimate 32 bit-

it says i have no audio playback device installed?

One or more audio service isn't running?

Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. Atleast one of these services isn't running?

i dont know what to do.?

I cant start windows normally, i have to run in safe mode.
I get SCoD if i try to start in normal windows 7.

Audio service and endpoint builder won't run in my Acer

I have the 32-bit version of Windows7 Home premium and nothing seems to repair the problem. I have tried recommendations listed but no go. In fact, when I do try to start either program it also disables the Windows wireless service.

What's the connection between to two? Any other ideas short of re-loading Windows?

    Thanks

    Icon tray audio

Same thing here. Moving volume slider fixes it but I am puzzled at all the bugs with all the icon trays. Half the time they do not show up and you have to go to task manager and stop explorer then restart it to correct problem. It is getting quite annoying. I even reset upper and lower string values in regedit but problem keeps returning. What's the deal Microsoft?
