Sound Problems windows 7

Hi All,

just joined and this forum seems like the best place to get the info I need.

I have windows 7 64 bit, I upgraded to windows 7 about 3 months ago and almost from the start I have had sound problems.

start up the computer and alls good I have sound, But walk away from the computer for say a half hour and you lose sound, To get it back you have to re-boot the computer, It means if you are on the computer for a few hours and say you want to watch a video you have to re-boot the computer to get sound back, A pain in the ........

I need help

what system do you have and are you sure the correct audio driver is install? are you running standalone speakers or built in? check jack plug sockets, reason i mention these is i had an pc with this problem once.

I need help

1. Click "Start", input "Device Manager" (without quotation marks) in the Search box, and then press "Enter".
2. Double-click "Sound, video and game controllers" to expand it.
3. Right-click the installed Sound Card and then click Uninstall.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Run Windows Update to install the sound card driver.

Alternatively, you can use the Hardware Troubleshooter in the Action Center.
1. Click on the flag in the notification area of the taskbar (low right of desktop)
2. If no issues are detected, select Open Action Center
3. select troubleshooting
4. under Hardware and Sound, select Troubleshoot audio playback
5. Follow the wizard

You might want to post your system specs, it really does help getting to the root of many problems. There's such a wide variety of hardware it makes troubleshooting much easier.

Does this happen after the system enters sleep, hibernation or low power mode?

There are power savings modes that cut power to peripherals, some do not seem to recover well. There are some fixes available.
