Realtek AC'97 Audio - Cant hear any sound from headphones or speakers.

I just bought a pc, windows 7 32bit. I tried to use my headphones but couldnt hear any sound, also tried speakers still no sounds. The green bar goes up on the volume control tho.

I have tried downloading some drivers, but they didnt work.
Im a novice when it comes to things like this, can anyone help?

if you need any information about my pc let me know.

theres some audio ports at the back of the pc and at the front. both dont work.

Thanks if anyone can help, i really dont know what to do

If you right-click on the speaker icon in the System Tray and select "playback devices", what options are presented to you? What items are in the list of available output sound playback devices?

Which one has the green check (i.e. currently selected as "default")? It should be "speakers" if you have your L/R speakers connected to the [usually] green jack on the motherboard or sound card and want sound from them.

If "speakers" is shown but is not checked as the current default, when you select it and push the "set default" button at the bottom of the dialog, do you now have sound coming out of your speakers? Does that solve your problem?

I think the speakers are set to default, i tried plugging the speakers into the front & back green audio port but still no sound.
