sound suddenly not working

i have a sound card, sb audigy. suddenly it is not working. my computer was accidentally unplugged when on.

in control panel, it says the SB Audigy sound card cannot start, (code 10). tried to update drivers to no avail.

any ideas? this happened once before too. i think it just started working again back then after multiple re-boots.

I had a similar problem recently.
I checked Services and found it was set to Stop.

which item under services was set to stop?

I don't recall at the moment, but see if yours is.

Click Start > Type in Search "msconfig" > Go to Services tab > Check if Windows Audio is checked > Apply Then restart

i see it is already checked.

btw, i have an on-board audio chip, and a plug-in sound card that is used instead.

it's pci express; i unplugged and plugged it in. i don't recall how i disabled the on-board chip long ago.

Windows Audio service should be in Automatic

it is. i take it unplugging the computer when it's on can do something bad?
