Crackling and distorted sound in Win 7

    Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago I bought and downloaded a copy of the "AOS system optimizer" and after using it to 'optimize' my system it instead screwed it up big time... now my sound crackles and stutters when I play all media, online or offline, dvds, youtube, games, etc...

Technical support from them didn't solve my problem, needless to say I've asked for( and gotten) a refund from them, but I'm still stuck with this annoying problem..I've tried the usual methods, such as rolling back drivers, uninstalling all the audio drivers (Nvidia and Realtek) restarting and letting win7 reinstall them, all to no avail

Here is how my audio 'profile' looks like :

    Name NVIDIA High Definition Audio
    Manufacturer NVIDIA
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_000B&SUBSYS_10DE0101&REV_1001\5&4B8928C&0&0001

    Name USB Audio Device
    Manufacturer (Generic USB Audio)
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID USB\VID_046D&PID_0A29&MI_00\6&359802F0&0&0000

    Name NVIDIA High Definition Audio
    Manufacturer NVIDIA
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_000B&SUBSYS_10DE0101&REV_1001\5&4B8928C&0&0101

    Name NVIDIA High Definition Audio
    Manufacturer NVIDIA
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_000B&SUBSYS_10DE0101&REV_1001\5&4B8928C&0&0201

    Name NVIDIA High Definition Audio
    Manufacturer NVIDIA
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_000B&SUBSYS_10DE0101&REV_1001\5&4B8928C&0&0301

    Name Realtek High Definition Audio
    Manufacturer Realtek
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_10250250&REV_1002\4&13C97565&0&0201

I hope somebody can offer me a solution please...

The RealTek would be your PC's sound device. NVIDIA is for HDMI only. I don't know what you have for the USB device, but that may be interferring and causing some of the problems.

However, the PC "optimizer" (also know as registry repairers, PC speed up, etc) can do many things that device drivers along cannont fix. Ultimately it may take a complete reinstall to get the PC operating fully and properly.

The first thing, is the USB device, disconnect it temporarily, restart the PC and see if that makes any difference. Also, if you are not using the Acer supplied RealTek sound driver, get that and install it. Generally the PC Vendor's driver is the preferred driver.

@Fireberd, thanks, the usb device is a Logitech wireless receiver for a pari of headphones...the sound was messed up even before I started using that...I went to the Acer website to download the Realtek audio driver for my system and the sound issue was still present...gonna try the 'restart' option but I doubt it would make a difference...perhaps it may have something to do with the BIOS?
