Headset's microphone is not appearing on the recording devices list.

I recently bought a Philips SHM7110U/10 headset to hopefully get better audio than my laptop's current microphone while recording with Fraps.

Fraps is currently using my laptop's default microphone, which can be changed by setting another microphone to the default. I read several articles on how to do this, but it turns out my headset does not appear on this list, only my laptop's default microphone.

Here is the recording devices list. The microphone seen in the picture is the built in microphone, which is not what I want to use.

Is there any way to fix this problem? I hope I have explained well enough. Thanks for reading.

You should have more than just the microphone. RIGHT click in an empty area in that panel then LEFT click show disabled and disconnected devices. Does the headset mic show up now? Also does the System Mixer (could be called Stereo Mix) show up? If it does, make that the default recording device then whatever input you have should be heard. The System Mixer (or whatever its called in your PC) is also needed if you want to record streaming audio from the Internet.

Thanks for the reply. I have ticked both boxes, but still the only thing that shows up is the laptop's microphone. Do have a location of this mixer thing? I'm not sure what you mean.

The Stereo Mixer (or whatever your PC calls it) would show in the Recording section if available. Most PC's have this, although there are some that do not.

Since you don't have this, do you have the correct sound driver installed? The (Conexant) sound driver from the Laptop Vendor is the preferred sound driver, as non-Vendor sound drivers do not work or work correctly in many cases. For example, the HD Audio Codec driver that Windows installs is a generic basic function driver, it provides PC audio but not much more.

Does the mic work on basic Windows, without Fraps loaded? even though it does not show in the Recording tab section?

I think I have solved this! I set up the default microphone to a headset instead . I still record with the default headset, the sound just gets picked up from my headset rather than my laptop. Thanks for the help though!
