Yep ok E but what is the motherboard brand as the Realtek is going to be in that.
If you want an easy way to find out run Speccy it will tell you everything about the specs on your machine down to quite fine detail - always god to have when you are hab=ving trouble. and if for instance you need to show RAM timings you can tak e a snip of that and post. But we are more interested in the audio.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download < free too
Well couldn't find much bout that little ref except it isa H77 chipset which is good but info on the features not enough to go o.
So I Googled that Maxxaudio and came up with this http://www.maxx.com/content.aspx?id=739 now I am thinking this maybe the application that has been loaded by Dell and it is the audio managing tool that just uses the Realtek function / onboard firmware. Realtek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Also digging down there is this Maxx | Applications so can you try and open it (the Maxx on your machine) and see what happens?.
It might an idea to take a look at Programs and Features to see if it s there too.
No probs E look mate I like audio stuff myself and I don't know hat you do with yours but I do like mixing and playing around with effects etc For the most part I use a Xonar DG card in the Sandy Bridge and it does just about anything I want. The Ivy Bridge is a different story but quickly I cannot get it set up so I use a free app form jriver that lets you rip burn audio video etc etc
Have a look mate - download and install nothing to lose and you might like it - stacks of links to music sites and well heaps of stuff really.
You can always uninstall it if you don't like it.
Let me know how you go.
JRiver Media Center software
Actually E sorry don't know your name not wanting to be rude and all that but that looks fairly rudimentary if you don't mind me saying so.
If it doesn't void your warranty I think the best way is to install an Asus Xonar DG sound card - not expensive at all and the GUI is real easy to use and just use Windows Media Player. Just a couple of pics to show you what the GUI looks like.
Good luck!!
