No audio will come out of speakers until reboot?

The audio to my laptop has been going silent on me lately, and I'm not sure if it's being disabled by something, or if there is a bigger problem going on.

I don't exactly know what triggers it, it just seems to go out at random times. The only sure way I know to fix this, is to reboot my system. But I want to know why it decides to go out in the first place?

I only put my system to sleep when I'm done with it, and when I'm ready to use it again I wake it up. The audio will work fine for many more sleeps, until it comes time to reboot due to strange audio loss.

Can someone help me figure this out?

First your PC audio is NOT the NVIDIA HD Audio, its "IDT HD Audio". The NVIDIA is for HDMI audio.

Check to make sure you are using the HP supplied IDT HD Audio Codec driver. Non-Vendor drivers, in many cases, can cause problems.

Are you plugging in an HDMI cable? When you do that the sound automatically changes from the "Speakers" (IDT in your case) to HDMI as the default Sound Playback device.

I'm not using an HDMI cable, but I do have a USB powered Logitech stereo speaker plugged in (it's just an external speaker), that receives audio from a cable running to the 3.5mm jack on the front of my laptop. As far as I know this speaker does not receive audio directly from the USB port in any way.

Whether or not this speaker has a connection to the sudden audio loss I'm experiencing, I'm really not sure. The speaker works fine otherwise.

When the audio goes out, it goes out on all fronts--the laptop speakers, the USB external speaker, and/or any headphones that I may plug in.

Have you tried downloading the latest audio drivers for your computer from the computer manufacturer's website please try this?

Also can you please post a screenshot of device manager also?

Possible Fix -- Got the audio working on my computer without rebooting

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this will help with your problem, but I had a similar problem where the sound stopped working every so often (no beeps, no audio from anything) until I rebooted, and then everything would work fine again for a while, until it stopped again. The audio seems to stop when FireFox runs out of memory, and then still won't work even when I abort and re-open FF so that it uses less memory, until I reboot.
I was able to get the audio to work again without restarting my computer by doing the following:

Windows, Run, services.msc, then select Windows Audio and click Restart.

I hope this is of some help.

I don't think a 6 year old thread problem is there anymore.

Even though the thread is old, I was hoping that this information might help somebody who is searching for the solution to this problem in the future, like I found this page today while searching for a solution.

hmm having a similar problem in my two speaker but this time it's not the built-in speaker, I'm using this 2 speaker below and still using windows 7.

    1. bose bluetooth speaker
    2. doss speaker bluetooth

Whenever my PC boot-up I always need to restart it again for the speaker works it's a bit hassle, I tried putting the jac 3.5mm at the rear still not working & also tried reinstalling the driver, it's maybe because I'm using windows 7? Tried it with my friend pc it works easily he's using windows 10, I'm just wondering if there's anyone who encounter this situation and already had a fix. I can install windows 10 but there's a lot of work for me (reinstalling all my programs). Thanks
