Unable to save audio recordings in CCIT-ulaw format since we went to Windows 7. Is there a way to revert back to the Windows XP Version of Sound Recorder on Windows 7 or is there a way to save an audio file in different formats like we were able to with the Win Xp version of Sound Recorder?
Tried simply copying the sndrec32.exe over from the Win XP machine but that didn't work, got numerous errors when launched.
Download and use the free Audacity recording program. According to their forum it will save in the format you want.

There are several other products that can do it, I need to attempt to use the core product provided in Windows 7, any other solution will require excessive red tape to be allowed on our corporate network.
The ONLY option in the Windows Sound Recorder is "WMA" (Windows Media Audio). There are no other options.
Windows Vista and 7 handle audio functions such as recording differently than XP so I don't think the XP version will work.

You CAN use XP's Sound Recorder, I have it & use it all the time on my 7 Pro 64Bit system. Just copy the main file to a USB drive, then copy that to the 7 system in any folder you want. When it's launched, an error message does come up about not being able to update the registry (I forgot the actual message since I don't get it).
To clear-up the error: R-Click the .exe & select 'Run As Admin', enter password & program will come up. After the 1st time of doing this, Sound Recorder should start w/o an error from then on. Hope this helps.
