    Is speech recognition worth learning?

I have been trying the Speech Recognition in Windows 7. I am finding the learning curve a little more than I was expecting. I was just curious, if anyone uses it and if it is worth the effort.

I have been playing with voice recognition software since IBMs Via Voice. Back then it clearly was not worth the effort. Much to cumbersome making corrections. So every five years or so I tried again.

Recently I bought Nuance Dragon v 11.5. It was quite good right out of the box. I believe it is now worth the effort. The key is learning the various commands and techniques to make corrections.

    Hope this helps.

I use the SPEECH recognition sometimes. I'm using it right now for this post.

It wants to highlight words on the page instead of typing them, like SPEECH. So instead I spell the word and that is why the word SPEECH is capitalized.

I have read the more you use it the better it learns your voice.

It has an 80% success rate or so for me. I like it if I'm going to be typing a lot!

One thing that I did not like is that I had to use Internet Explorer for this example. But I won't be using it surfing the web anyway.
