Synchronizing audio / video of multiple sources

Dump all the data to HDD. Demultiplex the audio from the camcorder video using VirtualDub. Full process mode for audio. File | save WAV.

Use Sony Sound Forge 9.0e to open the demultiplexed cam audio .WAV. Also open soundboard audio. Resample the camcorder audio to match the soundboard audio (48 kHz?) Save camcorder audio and close only this file in Sound Forge. Reopen it. Saving and reopening is important here. Don't forget this.

Now, you can normalize both files to a level you find appropriate to make it easier to see where they are exactly the same. Don't make the mistake of making it overloud to where dynamic compression occurs. Leave a little headroom.

You can physically see where any two points should match up in the files. Near the beginning of each file, you should zoom in on them to like a 1:8 or 1:6 ratio using the plus button at the bottom right of each file. Use a calculator to determine the offset and either add or remove time at the beginning of the soundboard audio to match.

You may also have to add or cut time at the end. Add some nice fades in there etc..

Save the soundboard audio. Done.

You may need to stretch the soundboard audio to match if the timing on the devices that recorded weren't in great sync. After your work, if they match early on then go out of sync later, you do. You will probably be able to get away with not doing this though, because they probably synced well enough.

Now if you want to put that soundboard audio with the video: Encode the saved soundboard audio to whatever codec you want. AC3, mp3 etc...
Demultiplex the video from the cam file using Virtualdub. Direct stream copy mode. Choose no audio. Save avi.

Open that .avi you just saved in VDub. Open the audio you encoded. Choose direct stream copy for both. Leave the default interleaving alone. It should be alright. Now file | save .avi.

Or you can use TMPGenc to encode to MPEG2 for DVD. You can use bbMPEG to multiplex the encoded MPEG2 video with AC3 audio.
