Hello skrillek I am just nonplussed as to why the machine has not even got SP3 on it. You need to do some serious work on this machine mate for one the SP3 and get some more RAM if you can find it. The sound is a low priority item really.

Once that is done then I reckon you can start work on getting the Realtek up to speed.

There isn't much information to go on. If its not starting or won't install check the BIOS to make sure its enabled. If it were accidentally disabled in the BIOS it won't start. Depending on the particular PC, it may need the motherboard chipset drivers reinstalled, as many devices on the motherboard will not be recognized without the chipset drivers. The PC vendor's RealTek driver should also be used. Non-Vendor drivers in some cases will not install and in others not work correctly.

The memory, as previously noted, is another issue. 512MB is real world bare minimum for XP. 1GB is a better "minimum" amount of memory.
