that is pretty much why i came here, nothing makes sense as to why it is doing, that is why i came here to see if there might have been something that i over looked. my best guess would have been one of the input devices wiggling when i get up but nothing physically moves. the weirdest part is that it does it to both of our computers. it doesn't really bother me that it does it but since i haven't encountered anyone say that their computer does that i figured i would try and look into it.
My previous microwave would turn itself on occasionally so, when I was walking away from it one day and heard what sounded like a beep, I assumed it was coming from the microwave. It did it several times over the next few days and drove me nuts until I found out stepping on the floor in just the right place made a squeak that sound just like a faint microwave beep.
Maybe you're both kicking a cable under the desk or bouncing it when you push away from the desk. This on one PC is unheard of but two have 2 doing it is surreal.
It could be static discharge. I get it all the time if I move around in my chair and touch my speaker controller on a dry day. (Not to mention a little tingle.) I have a wireless mouse and keyboard so those aren't affected but static electricity can discharge through those cables too. I'll also hear a pop on my TV speaker system if I get up and grab the wireless headphones sitting on top of the satellite box. That's why it's always good to use 3-prong grounded plugs/outlets and not cheap 2-wire extension cords.
Is this the sound a USB device makes if plugged or unplugged? If so determine which one is doing it by process of elimination, and then determine how it can be affected by your movement.
Do you have a webcam on the computers where this happens? It might be something like this. ASUS Smart Logon - ASUS Software Informer.
What happens when you go back to it, makes the connect sound ? There has to be a logical explanation, they're not sentient. Does anything stop working when this happens ? if not there can't be too much adrift.
Plus I too believe you're haivn' a laugh, sorry.

the house we are in was built in 1908 so it does shake with every step, so it might just be the moving motion making one of the USD cables wiggle
no webcam
it doesn't make the reconnect sound when we sit back down, just the disconnect when we get up. everything connected still works, so the best guess is the wiggle theory from the house shacking when we get up from our seats. now to figure out which cable is wiggling enough that the computer notices but not enough that is caused something to not work.
if only i where trying humor, but i'm not. it really does make the noise.
