    Same Issue

I have this same issue with my PC. I run Win10 and it is NOT a case of something being moved that causes the sound. I was putting my house-robe over the computer chair and it made this same sound every time the robe moved in front of the computer. NO it was not near the desk...no the chair was not contacting the desktop or desk in any proximity. I am not sure myself what causes it. I do not have webcam and no Bluetooth. there is no apparent reasoning behind it. my husband has the exact same PC as me...but no speakers are hooked up to his so we are not sure if his does this sound or not. the sound itself is the same sound it makes when I plug anything into a USB port, or wen I plug the phone into the pc via the usb port. my desktop sits to one side of the monitor so I don't think its IN the desktop. not a technical problem I don't think but it is weird that it happens....how can my pc KNOW when I'm not at it unless it has a webcam or sme other device that can 'sense' my presence? One note::: one of my downloaded games actually suggests that I use the touch-screen-enabled version...although to my knowledge I do not have a touch screen.

I've got the same problem and it did the same on my windows 7 setup as my new windows 10. The only usb devices connected are an old keyboard and a g7 mouse.

I'm not moving anything, but when I get up from the computer or come close to it, the usb disconnect/reconnect sound beeps.

It's got to be the mouse or the keyboard, but I can't understand how those two devices would know how close to them I am. I even waved my foot in front of them and the disconnect sound rang..

How is this possible?? it's incredibly creepy.

Same thing here (in Holland)! Sounds like a disconnect / connect usb beep. I covered the camera, disabled Bluetooth but no change. Nothing in the event logs.
Even emptied my pockets so that no electronic device can cause this.
Finally unplugged the mouse and ... found it!!!!
Fortunately no ghosts around here, at least they aren't messing with my laptop!
A cheap Chinese mouse causes this in my case. Can someone verify this?
my mouse is made by HP and came standard with the pc...I don't think its the problem

By chance would anybody have a head set with a mic plugged in that might be picking up sound and cause the strange happenings.

    Static discharge

Came here because today I started having the exact same issue. Whenever I got up and moved away from my laptop at the office, even if I hadn't touched any of the peripherals since last sitting down, I'd hear the disconnected-device-sound.

My first assumption was that I probably had some kind of device on me that connected wirelessly, but not only did I have nothing on me of the sort (not even an NFC bank card), the sound also happened too quickly for any such device to get out of range.

My second assumption was that some update had enabled facial tracking through the built-in webcam, but why my leaving the tracking zone would cause the laptop to play the disconnect-device-sound I don't know, and moreover: I covered the webcam with a thick scarf and still the sound would play!

I then found this topic and started to think I went mad, until I read about static discharge and things started to make sense. My office chair gets a bit of static charge I get up, and somehow, even though the distance between the chair and the laptop is a good 50cm the discharge of the built up static electricity seems to be causing the effect. This was confirmed when just now I was standing about a meter away from my chair looking at my desk when I heard the sound of static discharge coming from the chair, immediately followed by the sound from my laptop.

I'm now going to stop getting up so much and drain any built up static charge from my laptop (disconnect it from adapter, remove battery, hold power button for 30 seconds). If you don't hear from me again that fixed it :).

Those steps will only drain normal power from most of the laptop's circuits. Those steps will not drain static electricity. Those steps could add more static electricity to the laptop. If items in your office (chair, carpet/tile, clothing) are creating a static buildup, then you should not be removing the laptop's battery in that setting.

Ideally, you should get rid of items that cause excessive static electricity. If you cannot do that, then ground yourself while getting up from the chair. You can ground yourself by holding on to some metal item that has an electrical path to ground (perhaps a desk lamp).

Found this old thread due to having the same issue. Anyone that stumbles across this thread might benefit from my experience.

My PC just started behaving as the OP's. I had just built a new PC a few weeks ago. I did this because my old PC would not update Windows 10 for over a year. I had just purchased a new keyboard a week ago. I purchased a new chair a couple of days ago. It was only after the new chair that this started happening. I swapped out my chair, it stopped. Made no sense. But, with so many changes, I had no idea.

Because it was the USB disconnect sound, I downloaded a program to watch USB activity, I used usbdview. Watching the activity, I saw that it was my keyboard that was disconnecting every time I heard the sound. I removed the new keyboard and put the old one back on along with putting the new chair back. No sounds. New keyboard was a cheap one from Walmart. I opened it up to see if there was a sensor in it. Nothing.

My final conclusion is that the cheap Walmart keyboard was somehow picking up radio signals. The new chair is much bigger than the old one with a lot more metal in it, most likely blocking or redirecting those signals.

Bottom line, download a USB monitor program, you will be able to locate the issue.

MS puts a tiny hamster in each computer. When you get too close, it squeaks, hamster language for "Feed me."

But seriously, I think it's the computer going from sleep mode to regular mode. One of mine does that without the sound if I get close to it, surprisingly because it should wake up only if I hit the mouse or keyboard. If you check Sounds in the Control Panel, you'll find the sound there, and you can turn it off. I'm presuming Win10 still has a Control Pane...

Not the case at all. I could get up from my chair multiple times in a minute and it would do it each time. Like I said, I watched the USB activity, could see what was doing it. Changing the Keyboard fixed it. There are reasons for things, just not always obvious or logical.

I'm aware there's a reason for things. I've been using Windows for 25 years.
