No sound
I recently downloaded Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 9300 and the sound does not work. The device manager says that the Multimedia Sound Controller is missing. How do i resolve this?

With Dell, the Service Tag is the shortest path to a full description of the system specs/driver source.
Soup - that means, give us your service tag.
the service tag is fp0ch71
unfortunately when i look at dxdiag it says that "no sound was found" so i have no idea what what my audio hardware is
Dell frequently goes like this. I will resume this in the morning (DC time).
All you need is the driver. This is a simple problem to fix. You could try using the one on your Dell CD.
.
i just downloaded that dell audio driver (SIGMATEL STAC 975 AC97 Driver) and it gave me the following error:
"An error occurred while unzipping. One or more files were not successfully unzipped. The error code is 40."
(I get the same error when downloading the video and chipset drivers)
edit: i do not have the cds
i was able to fix the sound problem by downloading the driver then unzipping it using winzip then launching the install.
i am still having trouble with the screen resolution. i tried the same technique however when i try to launch the VBIOS driver it refuses to install stating that i need 35% battery life. (Battery hasn't worked in years)
Had exactly the same problem and can confirm that the winzip solution works.
Thanks guys.
