    Headset microphone not working

Using an SB X-FI Xtreme Audio sound card, windows 7 professional, Turtle Beach (x12) headset.

Months ago my microphone stopped working on my pc, then eventually sound also stopped working. I replaced my sound card with another (SB X-FI Xtreme also) and sound once again worked. However I cannot get my Turtle Beach headset microphone to work, the sound works fine.

What I've tried to resolve the solution:
*Checked to make sure it was in the right hole, of course.
*Downloaded recent device drivers for SB X-fFI Xtreme and install.
    *Gone through looking for something that might have muted the microphone;

^ I've been trying to check playback using sound recorder.
*Both this headset and another headset that don't work on my pc are fully functional on my laptop.
*Attempted to uninstall device drivers and reinstalled, also didn't work.

Where are you plugging in the mic? On the front panel or the mic jack on the SoundBlaster sound card rear I/O panel?

Also, you should set the "What You Hear" as the default recording device. That will allow you to record streaming audio from the internet and also whatever is connected either to the mic or line in will record (assuming all is well). I don't see the What You Hear in your Recording pane. RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and then LEFT click to show Disabled and Disconnected devices. The What You Hear (what Soundblaster calls the System Mixer or Stereo Mix) should now be shown and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

As you have a separate sound card, make sure the integrated audio on the motherboard is disabled in the BIOS so it does not conflict. You can only have one default playback device.

    1. I'm plugging into the sound card in the back of the computer as the front connects to the motherboard.
    2. I'm actually not sure what you're talking about with "What you hear." I am however showing disabled and disconnected. When you said System mixer I thought of Volume mixer, but I'm not sure if that's what you meant or not, so i've included a picture.

    3. I've just gone into bios and enabled the motherboard's sound, then attempted to disabled it from control panel. Still to no avail. (Doubt this has anything to do with a solution: When I had the motherboard microphone enabled, when I switched from SB microphone to it, it showed some activity the second I attempted to change it on the Sound window)

You want the motherboard sound disabled in the BIOS. Two sound cards can cause conflicts and nothing work or whatever works is flakey.

Usually (all cases I've seen) SoundBlaster has the "What You Hear" function. Do you have the correct (and latest) driver from Creative for that card?

Although you are trying to use the mic input, without the What You Hear function that could be the cause of the problems.

Look over this list from Creative to see if the exact model Xfi Extreme that you have is listed as having the What You Hear function. If not, it would suggest one of the older Xfi sound cards that Creative isn't supporting for Win 7.

As already said, disable that on-board motherboard sound ASAP in the BIOS settings.

You indicated that the mic on that headset stopped working first, I suspect that mic IS broken and you will never get a peep out of it in that case, Windows itself can see it, but that doesn't mean it's not broken.

Get another mic for a test and if that is indeed the problem, I gather you like those headphones, I would get a standing USB mic like this one for a replacement:

Amazon.com: Logitech USB Desktop Microphone (Black/Silver): Electronics

[That is the exact one I use and skips sound card completely]

Op stated the headset works on another PC, although he didn't mention the mic part.

Both this headset and another headset that don't work on my pc are fully functional on my laptop

Mic can break easily with use and have the headphones work just fine, needs to try another mic, just seems way too likely that one is broken after all that troubleshooting already done or test the mic part on another PC and eliminate it that way.
