Your onboard sound output is probably 5.1 capable and set to be 5.1 too.

And you might only have stereo speakers, possibly plugged into an incorrect output.

Moral of the story: Make sure your 2 speakers are plugged into the front speaker output 1/8" jack. In sound settings, set the output to be 2 channels (stereo).

Make a test. Convert the movie to another format (e.g. .wmv) with Format Factory ( Format Factory - Free media file format converter ). If it then works correctly, you have a codec problem. You then have to either install the missing codec or use a more universal player like VLC (I assume you are using WMP right now).

This can be fixed easily by doing this. This one setting seems to be messing everyone up. Change to DVD quality.

Codecs can be iffy. I would prefer to use VLC as the player ( Download VLC Media Player 1.0.2 - FileHippo.com ). But if you absolutely want a codec pack, I guess K-Lite would be the one to choose (
Download K-Lite Codec Pack 5.10 (Full) - FileHippo.com ). There is also someone here on the forum that claims to have a good pack that he made himself. I will try to find it and get back to you.
