Could you recommend a good mic that catches bass great?

I'm guessing any mic about 100 dollars would be nice?

I do have an out of order (the screen not working) MacBook Pro. If I recorded with a mic connected to MacBook Pro as opposed to the p6 HP that I have would the sound quality be different?

You don't give enough data. There's too many variables for the best microphone. What and where are you trying to record. You don't want just any mic. You'll need a mic that doesn't attenuate the low frequencies common with vocal mics. There's also the microphone pickup pattern. Are you recording in a room, hall, theatre or stadium?

The old cliché of garbage in, garbage out holds true for the whole system not just the microphone. You have to know whether your equipment can record the frequencies you need. And just how low you need to go. What is the frequency response of your system including speakers? There's no sense recording 20-30Hz if your speakers only go down to 100Hz. Or in the case of PC speakers, more like 1000Hz.

Some of the professional microphone companies, such as Shure, make USB connected mics that will have good frequency response. Otherwise you will have to go with a Pro P.A. system mic, such as a workhorse Shure SM57 or SM58 with a mic preamp that will amplify the mic signal to near "line leve" which is the audio level required by a PC sound card.

I have a recording studio and use SM57 mic's to mic instrument amps such as guitar or bass.

By bass I meant my own bass tone voice, as well as my cello.
