Mic not working when plugged in

Hello, my mic used to work well and I had seen no problems with it, but one day, perhaps because I had recently installed new audio drivers, it stopped working. I ordered a replacement mic and it still doesn't work. Either this is a software problem, hardware problem, wire problem, or somehow something else in the headset itself. It is a straight plug in mic, but when I plug it in it only has light static, which sometimes goes away. It is consistent static. I have reinstalled all my audio drivers, and I have recorded audio that had no sound with it. As well, I also tried recording audio once and was told I had no recording device. My computer's mic is fully functional, but the external mic does not work. If anyone can help me diagnose the problem I would appreciate it. I can buy a whole new headset if needed, but it seems the problem is with the computer.

Where did you get the "new audio drivers"? You should use the Samsung supplied sound driver. Other drivers may or may not work properly.

Also, what do you show for "Recording" Devices in the Sound Panel?
