I think you should be able to find the Klipsch set for about $150. I have a set and they are worth EVERY penny. You need to look at your available space and figure out if a 5.1 system is right for you. If you are interested in listening to music, go with the Klipsch. If you watch movies and want to immerse yourself in the audio, the 5.1's might make a little more sense.
Everybody I have recommended the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system to has been blown away.
Audioengine makes both powered and passive. If running through an available stereo receiver then go passive as I am. If not then go powered. The bass will be much more seamless and less flabby, more controlled and musical. The amps in the AE will be much higher quality of course for more money. I was running the Logitech's and then went with AR Powered Partners for quite some time then we fixed a house ground issue and the Cambridge DAC to Rotel Pre to Rotel Amp to original Infinity Modulus One's. Of course they're beyond good !
