ati7790 hdmi audio override VIA onboard unless uninstall/reinstall VIA

TBH I'd be happy with sound from both HDMI and VIA onboard.

    PC to HDtv via HDMI.

HDMI sound always overrides onboard VIA sound (v10_1200a)

If I want to use onboard, Device Manager: I have to uninstall VIA High Definition Audio then Scan for Hardware Changes, viola.

    Reboot, must repeat process

Tried this, and killed all sound:
You can disable them by editing two registry keys.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\HDAudBus\Start=4

This value disables the High Definition Audio Controller in the device

manager > system devices, it needs to be disabled.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\HdAudAddService\Start=4

    This value

disables the High Definition Audio Device/ATI HDMI Audio Device. You

don't have to uninstall the devices first and this will also free up

an IRQ. After a reboot the devices will show a yellow exclamation

point but you can ignore that.

    Thanks in advance

All you have to do if you want to use the PC Audio is go to the Sound Panel/Playback section and change the Default Playback device from the HDMI to "Speakers" (PC audio).

However, you can't have both at the same time. Windows limits you to only one default audio playback device at a time.

Setting default from hdmi to speakers does nothing until I uninstall/reinstall thru device manager

Please fill in your PC specs "My System Specs" so we know what we are dealing with.

What happens if you disconnect the HDMI cable at the PC?

Do you have any other devices listed in the Device Manager for Sound Devices? e.g. HD Audio Codec? You should only have the AMD HDMI and Via HD Deck, nothing else. If there are other devices, uninstall them in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and see how it reacts.
