No audio device output installed, no sound, video game controller...

Normally using my laptop last night. When i opened it this morning. I have no sound and the deadly X red mark on my volume on my lower right screen is present.

It is obvious that this problem (no audio output device installed) is very common to many. Reading through hundreds of threads saying i just have to find "sound, video game controller" and re install it. The problem with mine is that i dont even have that kind of tab on my device manager? how come?

(By the way...when i open my Device manager. I can see under Other devices that i have 3 Base System Device that has a yellow exclamation marks on it) FYI

I tried looking for sound programs in my computer (through search, through dxdiag, etc.) and i cant even find a sound driver. Because of this, i go to Realtek and installed the newest high definition audio codecs for 64bit windows 7 which version is R2.71 update 2013/4/8. Feeling confident that i can now install it to my device manager...i tried doing it. To no avail, i cant install it...this is the procedure that i am doing...

    1. Device manager
    2. Add legacy hardware
    3. Next>choose Install the hardware that i manually select from a list. Next
    4. Choose Sound, video and game controllers
    5. choose Realtek. Next, Next
    6. THEN...after installing...it will say...."An error occurred during the installation of the device. The extended attributes are inconsistent" FINISH

I really dont know what to do about this. If anyone can kindly help me, i would greatly appreciate it. I am not very good with computer terms so do bear with me.

The first approach, since it worked and then the next day didn't is to use the System Restore and restore the PC back to an available restore date that is Prior to having the problem. This fixes many problems, including your problem many times.

System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails.

BTW, please fill in the "My System Specs" rather than try to list them on a post (along with much of it not needed).

    Hi jehuty2013,

You need drivers for the system to be updated. It doesn't make sense regarding why all of the sudden drivers would go missing on the system.

If it was working earlier you could try system restore:

    System Restore

If the issue still persists, then right click the device with the yellow mark. Then select properties>details> select hardware id.

It should display information like "PCI_XXXX & VEN_XXX" so that we can find out the required drivers for you.

Also, kindly update your system specs here by following this.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

The story is...i was using my laptop normally yesterday evening. After opening it again today, the sound is now missing.

Yes..i already did a system restore...about 2 times already. The system restore was successful BUT i still dont have sound. Up until now i still have a red X on my volume and still doesnt have sound, game controller on my device manager. :'(

How about viruses? malware? although i dont remember being alarmed by my Malware bytes or my Avast about a virus...Ofcourse i am not 100% about it. What do you think? I will do full scan of both of them just to make sure.

I dont get it why even i have installed a new Realtek it doesnt recognize it or i cant put sound, video game controller on my Device manager?!

I have 3 Base System Devices under "Other devices" that has a yellow exclamation point. Doing what you said...here are the results...

    1. PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_FF501179&REV_12
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_FF501179
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_088000
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_0880

    2. PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&SUBSYS_FF501179&REV_12
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&SUBSYS_FF501179
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&CC_088000
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&CC_0880

    3. PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_FF501179&REV_12
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_FF501179
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_088000
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_0880

There you go...I really hope you can help me cause i really dont know much about computer stuff :'(

By the way...I also have read the BIOS thingy....i dont have any idea what it is or how i may be able to go there(if it is a place or what, hahaha!) There are so many ideas on the net but it doesnt seem to work. As far as now, these are the things i did that failed/did not do anything:

    1. System restore
    2. Download Realtek and install
    3. Add legacy hardware

How do i check if my sound card is still up and running and not damage? I am afraid and dread that it might already be broken(hoping not! dont have extra money to repair or even buy new one ). This laptop is bought since 2007 i think(pretty obvious from its specs)

That model is not listed by Toshiba. There are U305's, but not the U2E1 designation.

However, reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers and then the Toshiba supplied sound driver.

How do i do this? my computer literacy is at a minimum. If u can kindly tell me the steps how to do it, i would greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks! :)

The "s7446" is the correct designation and not "u2e1"

Chipset drivers Satellite U305-S7446 Support | Toshiba

Sound driver Satellite U305-S7446 Support | Toshiba

From the description on the Toshiba site, these are Zipped files and must be unzipped and then installed. Install the chipset drivers first. The files are self extracting and running. They will extract to a folder then run the installation.

    Hi jehuty2013,

Thanks for providing us this information. I have searched for all the devices you have mentioned and it seem all indicates to the Ricoh card reader driver is missing on the system.

Please check these link below from where you can try and install the drivers:

Dell Studio 1535 missing driver in Windows 7 x64 (Base System Device) - TechSpot Forums

    Base System Device

    Implitech Ricoh PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852

Also, regarding the audio drivers please let us know the correct model number of the system so we can locate the audio driver for you :

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Hi Sandeep! thanks for the reply...about the sound(which is the one i want to repair). Up until now i dont have it and the red X mark is still there. Regarding the website Toshiba Drivers...i write my model number on it and the next screen has "Filter by" on the left side. I click "Sound" and on the right side appears several options. I dont have any idea what to choose there?!?!

    Copy pasted it:
