Jack sensing xps 1647?

The original problem with the jack sensing is because the extra sensing contact in the jack is in the position where it is telling the PC there is a plug in the jack. Ultimately the audio board will have to be replaced. If its still in warranty, contact Dell support so it can be repaired (replace audio board). Usually the jack itself cannot be repaired and user replacing the jack (unsoldering/resoldering) can be an issue because of the multi-layer PC board and the special tools needed.

If its out of warranty, it looks like the audio board has the connectors and can be replaced.
I found one for $27.95 HERE I know nothing about the company other than I found it doing a google search.

Sometimes you can put a plug in and wiggle it around and get it to "release". On some (RealTek, not IDT that I've seen) there is an option in the sound card configuration panel to have both the headphone and speakers on at the same time.

yeah well the parts warranty has expired.. i have another warranty that should last another year but i do not know if this is covered in it. Can the jack be disabled manually? Since i have two jacks, if the broken one is disabled by unsmoldering it, will the speakers start working?

Well guys, im going to take my laptop to a computer shop and ask if they can replace the sound card.. but i have an update.. the jack where the sensing is messed up suddenly stopped working.. and before they went out, i heard noise through the speakers (was listening to some songs.. ) .. so is that any sign or anything?

If you want to take it to local shop then check the part suggested by them to replace on the system. As, your sound card might be intact you would need a replacement audio board and cable for the system.

I tried most of the things and it didnt work... I have an international warranty of 1 year and local warranty of 3 years with parts warranty of 1 year.. ill send you a pm now..

the thing was, you know when u put the headphones in the jack, there is some mechanism like a switch .. the thing was the last the the headphones fell and they came out of the jack aggressively.. apparently that happened again and i heard a small click sound and the speakers were working.. that jack works as well..
dunno what mechanism was stuck but apparently its now unstuck.. so its working :)
