what is the "file type" of a dvd??

In types of files in windows what is the file type for a dvd?

Since WMP does not play sound on any DVDs (way to go Microsoft) I have added VLC. There does not seem to be any way to make that the default for playing dvds. In control panel and device associations there is a really long list of file types. which one of those refers to dvd movies? I want to launch Dvds using VLC like I used to be able to do on my old hard drive.

i do not want wmp to launch for dvd since they forgot to make it able to play sound :-(

There are many possibilities of file types that can be on a DVD. Try this instead:

Start> Control panel> If control panel is set to list view (Large or small icons) choose AutoPlay> If control panel is set to Category view, Select Hardware and Sound, and then AutoPlay> Click on the setting for DVD Movie and choose VLC from the list (hopefully it is listed, I don't have VLC installed myself)> Click Save in lower right

My WMP plays both video and sound. If yours does not, there is a problem.

DVDs per say do not have a filetype. They are just storage media that can accomodate many different filetypes. To answer your question on would have to know the filetype of the file(s) on the DVD.
