Sound icon present but sound bars not visible

I have a Dell Studio XPS which has the sound adjust buttons (for volume increase and decrease) on the keyboard. When I press those buttons, the sound does increase and decrease but I am unable to view the bars & I was able to do so previously. I can always use the volume icon on the bottom right hand corner of my desktop, but being able to view the bars by pressing the buttons on my keyboard was more convenient.

Can anyone help me with getting white bars back when these buttons are pressed? Thanks.

Sounds like a corruption between Windows and the keyboard drivers. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the keyboard and then LEFT click "uninstall" (this assumes you do not have a password to enter to get into Windows when you boot up). Then restart the PC (your mouse will still work) and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Keyboard.

If this does not fix it, the keyboard may be faulty. You can post on the Dell Community Desktop Hardware section and maybe someone there has some additional advice. Desktop General Hardware Forum - Desktop - Dell Community
