    Asus Xonar DX Help

I have the above card, and i cant get 5.1 sound through S/PDIF... I have the lateset drivers(its beta though) and my speakers are the Logitech Z-5500.. When i was using XP all was working perfect, but now i am getting 2.1 sound through S/PDIF and no sound through the single connection..

    Thanks in advance

Not that it helps your problem, but any particular reason for using the optical connection over analogue? Reason for asking is that your sound card has a better DAC on it than what is in the Z5500, and you would get better sound using analogue (which would also solve your 5.1 problem )

I cant get 5.1 sound from both connections, always 2.1...Did the tests,i am getting the the sound from all the speakers, but actually i dont. when i listen a song through WMP,or youtube, etc = 2.1 again . The reason that i am using S/PDIF is for Dolby Digital Live.

    Nice advice Stormy. +1 Rep.

The S/PDIF output on this card is shared with analog line and mic input port. So it could actually be using a wired digital connection. There's an adapter though that allows for Tos-link.

If S/PDIF out isn't used, it frees up the port for other use. So again, good advice I say.

Nonetheless, good call on that. Very true.

Checking these Xonar family of cards out, they seem very good! I would have definitely considered buying one if I didn't need all the inputs, types of inputs and practically non-existant latency that my MOTU Traveler offers with ASIO drivers.

Unless any of those are being fed through DDL, they are all going to come out in 2/2.1 as they are all stereo (and mono for most things on Youtube).

Unfortunately I can't help with the DDL as I don't use it, only have analogue speakers (X-530) so no need of it. I must have done something wrong on my end though as my Xtreme Music just works; 5.1 where it is supposed to be, CMSS3D for those stereo sources I want in 5.1, etc; when so many are having problems.

Same thing. Unless you are playing DVD-A, it is all (music CD's, mp3's, etc) encoded in stereo right from the source.

Just curious but have you tried using the analogue connections and enabling the Xear3D to up-mix those stereo sources to 5.1? Would help to rule out if it is just a digital problem, or a problem in general with the drivers/DDL/config settings/etc?

Thanks for your posts, but i found what was the problem... I was confused with an option that actually added to the card interface (Audio Channel) in Windows Vista/7
