    Thanks for the suggestion, bloke.

I'll have to try that eventually, the problem is I also can't seem to get system image to work (I have a dual boot with XP on separate drives, but apparently some files for W7 are on the XP drive, so it will only let me create an 80GB image of both drives and I don't have enough space).

So if I start trying these things and they don't work I'm back to formatting, and with everything else working and all my programs (office, CS4, etc) installed and running, I'm reluctant to go through it all again.

I did figure out a temporary solution, though: install the driver and listen to music while I work, then uninstall before restarting. It's a pain, but it works.

    Hello All,

I have not updated the thread in sometime for working on a design project. Last night I was up into the wee hours doing an installation of Windows7 RC, since learning that the most pivotal software; Solidworks2009 is now functioning in RC.

So, I also have been able to successfully open the x-fi console in this RC build. Have not really had the time to thoroughly test the sound quality, but as yet it seems to work rather well.

I shall update the thread today to reflect everyones continued issues, so that you may also have resolution to your wants.
Please include links as well. I'm going to try a few suggestions that have been pointed out here. I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme, I've not found the right drivers yet. I'm on an older Pen4 system with 2gig's of RAM running 32bit. My main OS is XP.

Is it possible to adjust surround sound balance and/or adjust EQ settings with an Audigy 2 (original) in W7?

The pack I found here does not have the EAX console, which I use to enable CMSS 2 for deeper bass sound as well as more balance towards the rear for more surrounded sound.

This is can be easily resolved by using the Windows 7 RC build 7100, if you are using 6100 or previous it will not be possible without a thorough go-around.

    Which build are you using?

Joe are you using build 7100? If so you just need to click the compatibility tab for vista to access eax.

I'm actually running 7137 but I think there is something else preventing your suggestion from being possible... When I try to install the Creative drivers from my original CD or the download here the very first thing it says is "no compatible hardware detected" or something to that effect. I guess maybe I can DL the EAX console separately somehow? Kind enough to give me a link? I don't feel like googling this late... *yawn* hehe

Since May 29 there has been a new X-Fi Xtreme beta driver available here:

    Creative Worldwide Support

Have you tried it? It works fine with my SB X-Fi Xtreme card. Note that it automatically seems to install itself as a "7.1 Surround" system. You will need to go into "Control Panel | Sound" and select ""Configure" to choose the speaker option that matches the audio set-up you actually have.

Listen if your running 7137, then that may also be another reason it is doing what it used to do with 6100 builds. As the 7137 while newer than 7100 is nevertheless not a public release.

From what you describe it is doing exactly what it did in the 6100 builds. You should not a that unrecognized driver pop-up at all.

Consider un/re-installing your 7137 to see if this resolves any missing os dlls', that you need. If this does not work then try dl'ling 7100 official not torrent.

Newer x-fi drivers may also help, but they should not be necessary if you have 7100 you could use the manufacturers cd that you originally used with your previous os.
