You stated earlier you were wiggling the 9 pin connector to make contact before it stopped working. If so, I'd look there first for the bad connection. Wiggling the connector, may of opened the female side of the plug to where one or more of the pins are no longer making contact.
Also, check for a bad solder joint inside at the connector when you remove the panel.
While inside checking for a bad connection, apply pressure at different points. Of course, use something non metallic. Such as, wood or plastic.
