Cant connect bluetooth headset to Windows 7 laptop..

I have inbuilt bluetooth in my laptop (running win7 ultimate) with HP/widcomm drivers installed. I have Sony HBH-DS980 A2DP capable stereo bluetooth headset. I want to use it with my laptop as stereo headphones (listening music) + internet telephony headset (voice chats, skype etc). First of all it was pain to connect the this headphones with laptop. It took me many many many tries to pair this correctly. Now that its connected, I cant get it to make a connection between laptop and headphones. I tried pressing the button on headphone to initiate a connection, and also tried to make connection by pressing the connect button in headset's bluetooth control window with no results. However it does connect once in a while (I would say less than 10% of the times). The same setup used to work fine when I had vista. What is wrong with Windows 7? I tried going back to a previous version of drivers that HP released before current ones, and even tried formatting/reinstalling windows 7, but same result. I checked headset's properties; under services I tried selecting/deselecting Audio Sink, Handsfree telephony, Headset, Remote Control, Remotely Controllable Device, but same result. I Any ideas or tips? I am just so frustrated I cant think of anything else to try..

    I have the same headset...

But Im using a Dell D630 Laptop running Windows 7 Enterprise with the Dell 355 Bt adapter.

I've also had trouble getting it to connect. I used to have to force it to connect in XP. So I tried everything I can think of to force it in Win7 through the bluetooth settings dialog, and using the headset itself. Randomly it would work.

Eventually I found that if the headset is turned off, the computer rebooted, and the headset turned on, they just connect automatically without me doing anything. Which was great till something (like my cellphone) connected to the headset and then I couldn't get the headset to reconnect otthe laptop with out rebooting. Yuck!

Anyway this rebooting thing gave me an idea... What I do now, is right click on the bluetooth icon in the tray and turn off the bluetooth device in the computer. Then I power off the headset. Then I re-enable the bluetooth in the same menu. Lastly I power on the headset, and it pretty much works all the time - Though I had one time when it connected but I had no sound.

I love this headset with Win7 much better than with XP, the play pause, track forward/back even control WinAMP! It's cool!

Connecting used to be such a pain, I used to just load my music on my phone and listen from there. but now I can get my music, games, web audio etc. all ,mixed through the same headset. And it still switches to my phone when calls come in and returns to the computer when they're done. It's great!

I feel like I've finally got it working the way it's supposed to. Until today the only thing I found annoying was trying to switch Win7 back and forth between the BT headset and the built-in sound card. (I found this question while googling for that.)

I'd still like to find a sidebar gadget to switch that back and forth, but I found that right clicking the volume icon in the stem tray will allow you pop up the audio output device selection dialog directly (without drilling through start->control panel->etc.) It's not the best but it's usable.
